Kasar

He looked at me in surprise and said, "I thought you said this morning that I was not your type."

"I didn't think you were until now," I replied with confidence.

He looked at Mother and asked what she wanted him to do.

"You have been chosen by my daughter,  you will dine with us tonight and you will court my daughter however you see fit but if she has any complaints we will end this immediately. She will have nothing but the best."

He nodded and offered me his hand and I took it, he kissed it just brushing his lips against my hand. I felt a shiver run up my spine and he smiled at me and left the room. Mother looked at me and asked me to show her my wings, I turned, they had turned black, green, and white. The green looked so blue and it looked somewhat like Kasar’s eyes. I didn’t think anything of it. The colors of Kasar. Mother looked at me and we waited for Kasar to figure it out. I got ready for dinner, I put on a simple green-blue satin and lace dress with satin shoes. Then I was about to come down when mother came into my room ushered me towards my vanity and she put a green-blue satin ribbon on my neck and wrapped it around twice. Then she told me I could go down. Then I saw Kasar pacing his wings out, and they were the same colors as my own but they were bigger and fuller, then he saw me and walked over and asked if I could explain why his wings were so big and full.  I opened mine and he gasped and asked me if I was his soul mate and I said I might be. I told him that I thought it happened only to royals. "But then again you are a royal."

He nodded, “I’m a prince of the Wild Ones Kingdom. I suppose you already know that though.”

“I do know that and I have no problem with that. Did you think that I would?”

"It had crossed my mind that you wouldn't love me if you had known where I had come from. After all, my kingdom threatens the safety of your people quite often."

" Kasar you know I wouldn't have chosen you if I believed that we wouldn't get along or be a fit match. So your concern is unnecessary but I understand why you thought the way you did."

Kasar glanced at me and he tipped his head at me in understanding. I breathed a sigh of great relief. Kasar offered me his arm and we walked into the dining hall together. As we entered Kasar whispered to me; if I wanted to go for a walk with him after dinner I stumbled a little and he steadied me. I looked around briefly then turned to look at him intently and said, " I would love to and if you would walk me to my room after the walk in the garden, I would like to show you something that only one other person knows of."

Kasar inclined his head in agreement. We both walked forward as if the exchange never happened. Mother and Father were already sitting and Irine was just sitting down. Kasar's parents were waiting on the other side of the table. I smiled and tipped my head at my parents acknowledging that they were still the rulers of the kingdom.  Kasar bowed to my parents and drew a chair out for me, I kissed his cheek in thanks and sat down. My father gave thanks to the holy one for the food and we all dug in. The dinner consisted of 5 courses. The first was soup. The soup was clam chowder with carrots on the side. The second course was a salad. The salad was Romaine lettuce with spicy croutons along with strawberries with an Italian dressing. The third course was venison with rice and deep-fried broccoli. The fourth course was fish on top of wild brown rice. The fish was flounder sauced with lemon thyme. Then came the dessert. The dessert was dark chocolate lava cake with a dark chocolate cherry ganache in the center. I winced with every new course knowing that outside the palace little boys and girls were starving and we were in here eating a five-course meal when they haven't been fed in over 3 weeks or more. I finished eating, Kasar presented his arm and I took it and we left for the garden.

The garden was split into 4 sections once four each season. We were in the middle of summer and fall which had roses, rose of Sharon, petunias, tiger lilies, and so many more flowers; I couldn't remember the names either. I exhaled in defeat as I surrendered to my thoughts of the starving kids on the streets. Kasar turned sharply around to look at me and took my hands, and in his eyes was a question that I answered with my heartache. I told him about what I saw on the streets. He stood there listening, not making any sounds or movements. I spilled out my heart and when I was finished he spoke slowly.

"We can do only so much in so little time but we can make sure that they get food or something to get food to them."

I nodded my eyes clouding with tears and Kasar pulled me against his chest and I cried softly. When I finished crying he handed me my handkerchief and I wiped my eyes, nose, and his jacket. I laughed and cried, that wasn't the way I had imagined my first walk alone with a man to be like.  Kasar laughed and shook his head. I led him up to my room and opened my door and he nearly fell over in shock, fabrics, jewels,  feathers, shells, sea glass, sea silk and fake skins were everywhere. Books lined the walls.

"This is my secret, I sew dresses for the orphan girls and I sew dresses for my parents and little sister."
