Episode 10

Months later...

Liz

These past few months have been quite ordinary. The main change was that I moved into my senior year, and the holidays turned out to be rather dull. Andres would leave early for work and return late, and on weekends I found myself alone; occasionally he stayed in, only because he had fought with Teresa, but their reconciliation always happened within two or three days. For this reason, I visited my parents often; solitude wasn't exactly to my liking. And yes, that was how I spent my vacation. Returning to school didn't alter much, except for the delightful surprise that Margarita now had a boyfriend.

Today is Wednesday, and Andres is due home early. Dinner is ready, just waiting for him so we can eat together. While watching a comedy on TV, I hear the front door and see that it's Andres.

"Hello Liz," he greets me, looking as worn out as if he had been beaten.

"Hello! Are you hungry?" I pout at him.

"Please," he begs, and I can't help but laugh. We serve ourselves, and he helps me set the table. "How was your day?" he inquires, sipping his juice.

"I've been swamped with pending assignments, but I'm nearly through with them," I reply. "And how was yours?"

"Exhausting. The sales have soared, and I'm handling two stores," he sighs, worn out. "It's truly draining," he concludes.

"I can only imagine you're shattered..." I give him a smile. "By the way, I'm visiting my mother this weekend," I let him know.

"Again?... Are you sure you're okay?" His brow furrows, and his gaze locks onto me.

"Absolutely," I assure him—or at least, I hope so.

We finish dinner and settle on the couch to watch television. Andres nestles beside me and soon falls asleep. Watching him sleep so peacefully, he looks like a child. His arm wraps around my torso, pinning me down, and I just make myself more comfortable to sleep next to him.

Andres

I wake up in the living room with Liz in my arms, trying to get up without waking her. I gently lay her down on the couch, watching her sleep so soundly. I delicately touch her face, reaching her lips, which are rosy without any makeup. Drawing closer, I feel my lips brushing against hers, as soft as silk. I’m on the brink of waking her with a passionate kiss, but I hold back.

Liz. She's truly beautiful, but I need to stop wanting her.

I head for a shower, and on leaving the bathroom, I see Liz waiting to enter. "Good morning, Liz."

"Good morning," she responds with a smile, entering the shower. I go to my room to change and wait for Liz to get ready.

Surprised to see me still at home, she asks, "Why haven't you left?"

"I’m giving you a ride to school. Let's go!" I smile, and we leave the house. She seems thrilled—I wonder why? Eager to see that Simon?

"Still jealous?" My conscience challenges me.

Arriving at school, she gives me a kiss on the cheek, hops out almost running—so endearing it makes me chuckle.

When I get to work and enter the office, Pablo is waiting.

"You're late," he chides. "We have a meeting in less than 20 minutes."

"I know; I’m sorry. I had to drop Liz at school," I explain.

"You took Elizabeth to school?" He looks at me skeptically.

"Don't misunderstand; I just did it because she was running late," I defend myself.

"You're growing fonder of Elizabeth than you'd like to admit," he points out, his tone clearly cautionary.

"No, it's not that; I care for her like a little sister," I lie, although I'm actually getting more attached than I care to admit.

...

It's Saturday, and Liz left for her parents' place yesterday and isn't due back until tomorrow. I’m tidying the house so there’s no chores when she returns. As I'm sweeping, I hear a knock at the door—an unexpected visitor. I open it and am met with a fervent kiss that compels me backward as the door slams shut. "What are you doing here?" I ask between kisses.

"I missed you, and I desire you, my love," she steals another kiss, which I reciprocate, but we pause for breath.

"My love, I've told you, not here. Liz lives here too," I pull away slightly from Teresa.

"That girl won't be back till tomorrow," she says seductively, unbuttoning my pants and kissing my neck. She knows my weakness—I can't resist. I kiss her desperately, pulling her toward the nearby couch. Overwhelmed by desire, I make her mine right there, not thinking of anything else. In no time, we're both undressed, her on top of me, her breasts bouncing, my mouth tasting one of her nipples while my hand can’t stop touching her splendid behind. Teresa's moans are so loud they could fill the room, igniting me further.

"Andres, I'm back," I hear Liz's voice. I turn to see her at the entrance, in a daze, watching us. Speechless. "Excuse me," Liz stammers and dashes out, dropping her items on the floor. "Liz!" I yell, but it’s futile; she's out of the house. I get dressed as fast as I can, stepping outside to find her, but she’s nowhere. I shout her name repeatedly to no avail.

When I return to the house, Teresa is already dressed. "I'm sorry, love. I didn't mean for her to see us like that," she says, lacing up her shoes.

"Poor girl?" I ask, confused and sarcastic. "She's not a girl! She's a young woman who shouldn't have seen that!" I roar with fury.

"It's my fault. I shouldn't have come. I just wanted some time with you; I feel terrible for her," she apologizes, looking down.

"No, it's not your fault. It was me; I shouldn't have let it happen here. Even though she knows about us, I should've respected her, respected our home," I say listlessly.

"Stop agonizing over it. Tell her it won't happen again. She'll understand," she advises. I just nod, not wanting to continue the conversation.

After Teresa leaves, I clean the living room and take a shower, anxious about Liz, who still hasn't returned after over three hours. The evening turns to night, and I can't stand it anymore. I grab my car keys to go look for her, but as soon as I reach the door, she walks in.

"Is it safe to enter, or is there someone else?" she asks with sarcasm.

"I'm alone," I reply. She just nods and comes inside. "Liz, I'm sorry," I try to apologize. She stops dead, not facing me.

"I know you have a girlfriend, and I'm just the facade. Just, don’t bring her here again. It's uncomfortable for me," she says, her voice seems to break. Is she sad? Shocked? Disappointed? Upset? I'm not sure, but I am certain that I'm an utter fool. She locks herself in her room. I wait, hoping she'll come out so I can apologize properly, but she doesn't. Past midnight, sleep overtakes me. Tomorrow, I must talk to Liz.
