In the guild, Lulu was visibly struggling as a crowd surrounded her from every direction. She glanced my way and then dashed to take refuge behind me.
"Aksa, help me."
The adventurers, predominantly men, eyed me with hostility. Judging by their appearance, they were high-tier adventures from another city's guild.
"I heard this guild is managed by a beautiful overseer. Turns out that's true."
I sighed softly and then said,
"I hope you'll leave quickly and refrain from bothering Miss Lulu."
"That's for us to decide, besides we don't take orders from a low-level adventurer like you."
Lulu clung tighter to my hand.
I suspected that their visit wasn't just to flirt with Lulu. Yes, she was beautiful, but beauty alone wouldn't draw high-ranked adventurers here.
There had to be another reason, and as I pondered, Lulu's voice broke through.
"They came to challenge our adventurers."
"Why would they do that?" I inquired.
"There's an inter-guild competition coming up, and they're looking to gauge our strength."
This was news to me.
"Are you guys idiots?" I blurted out.
One man leaned in so close I could feel his breath.
"What did you say?"
"We're just a weak guild with mainly low-level adventurers. If it's strength you want to measure, you've come to the wrong place. Better to search for another guild fit to challenge."
A sword was swung towards me; I could have blocked it outright, but I let someone else step in.
It was Kazel, his bald head gleaming in the breeze.
"There's to be no fighting in our guild, I don't know who you are, but Aksa's right... we're a bunch of weaklings too busy frolicking with Succubi, so you're wasting your time here."
I hadn't said that.
Wait, was there such a questionable place in this town?
As Lulu whispered to me from behind, I began to understand. Kazel was referring to a maid cafe run by Succubi.
"Who prefers Succubi? Cat girls are the real deal."
"You're mistaken; Succubi are curvier... they're the pinnacle of all races."
"No, no, cat girls take the lead... their thighs, their chests, that's true perfection."
"Succubi."
"Cat girls."
The adventurers around us joined in the Succubi chants, while the ones from outside chimed in with 'cat girls'.
Suddenly, the situation devolved into total chaos.
While the women remained silent with uncomfortable stares, one by one they started to leave the guild.
Kazel clicked his tongue, and the jeering escalated.
"Peace be damned, let's brawl," Kazel shouted.
"Scared? Not a chance."
A fight broke out, smashing tables and chairs into debris, causing extensive damage.
"Aing maung, kadie maneh.."
"Trouble's brewing, boss. Mamat's losing it again."
"Just ignore it... oof."
Crash.
Bottles shattered as they were struck by the brawling combatants.
"I'll knock sense into you all," shouted someone who ended up being pounded by everyone else.
What in the world was happening?
Lulu watched in a panic. Her guild was in ruins, and repairs would be costly.
Vivia, who was on duty, emerged from the entrance, and as she attempted to break up the fight, a bottle flew her way, striking her head and knocking her down.
An immediate hush fell over the crowd.
"Isn't that Vivia Legal?"
"It seems so."
Vivia rose, holding her head.
"Who threw that bottle at me? Come forward, I'll thrash every single one of you to death!"
Hearing her words, everyone scattered out of the guild.
