Enzo: How was your day?
Liz: It was calm, sir.
Feeling intimidated and puzzled by his behavior, she responded with a placid demeanor. They had a peaceful dinner and afterward each went to their respective rooms. Enzo was perplexed and uncertain about his emotions.
The next day, Liz woke up very cheerful for it was her 20th birthday. She got up humming a tune and took a shower, then dressed in a very pretty blue dress.
Liz came down for breakfast with a beaming smile and to her delight, only Cecilia was at the table.
Liz: Good morning, Ceci.
Cecilia: Good morning, my girl. You seem happy today.
Liz: Yes, very! Today is my birthday, Ceci.
Cecilia: Oh my goodness, what joy. Happy birthday, dear. May God bless you abundantly, you’re a wonderful young woman and deserve all the happiness.
Liz: Thank you so much, Ceci.
Cecilia: If you had told me earlier, I would have made a cake.
Liz: You don’t have to, Ceci. I'm going out, okay?
Cecilia: Have fun.
Liz left and headed to the orphanage; she was not working today since her birthday merited a day off. As soon as Liz left, Enzo came down for breakfast to find Cecilia still beaming with happiness, which he found odd.
Cecilia: Good morning, sir.
Enzo: What’s this joy about, Cecilia? Where’s Liz?
Cecilia: She just stepped out, sir. Today is the birthday of the sweet girl, and we were just talking about it a moment ago.
Enzo: Hmm.
Cecilia left, and he sat there deep in thought, slightly annoyed because Liz continued her outings. Today he decided to follow her, and since she had just departed, he managed to keep track of her. Enzo roamed the streets in search until he spotted a lady in a blue dress at a bus stop. He didn't believe it at first but became intrigued by this woman. Approaching, he realized it was Liz and was shocked to see her using the bus.
The bus started moving and Enzo followed behind. Soon, Liz got off, walked down the sidewalk, and entered a toy store. As per tradition on her birthday, her parents made deposit funds in Liz's name. Not wanting to use her father's ill-gotten wealth, she went shopping for the children at the orphanage.
Enzo parked his car and observed Liz from afar. After twenty minutes, she left the store laden with bags and boarded another bus.
Enzo was confused, and it was getting to him because he figured it was all just Liz's game, that she couldn't genuinely be so naive and kind-hearted. To Enzo, Liz was just another woman who liked to spend money and attract attention, so this was probably just an act to seem like a good person.
Liz got off again and continued walking until she entered the orphanage. Enzo remained in the car, debating whether or not to go in. He eventually decided to enter and since he was well-known there, he paid the receptionist not to mention his presence.
Liz went straight to the courtyard where she was met with a lovely surprise. All the kids shouted "Surprise!" and in front of her was a decoration with a cake. Liz fell to her knees, overwhelmed with emotion, and the children rushed to embrace her. Enzo watched from a corner, his chest tight with unease, witnessing the warmth of the children's affection and Liz's teary joy. It was at this moment he realized he had made a grave mistake questioning her character.
