As he got in position, with a wooden sword in front of him, he closed his eyes and calmed his nerves.
Performing in front of the class was a daily necessity at this point, but he couldn't help but tremble lightly whilst he held the weapon. With sweat dripping down his face, and weak shivering legs. He started to wonder just what was happening to him. Whilst holding the hilt, he pinched his own hand just below the index finger, waking him up and giving him that last push.
He adjusts his hands and held the leather grip tighter. He then raised his sword above his head and takes one final gasp of air before he swinging.
"HA!" He grunted.
After a swift and compact slice, the air that came out of the force of his swing manifested into flames, hurling towards the practice dummy located at the other end of the stage, hitting it.
"Haa...thank god," Sam whispered to himself.
"Splendid! As you can see, this is what we call a sword skill." Lucas exclaimed as he continued adding more information, handing out tips on how to smoothly conjure up the skill. "Make sure you're calm, don't let your nerves get to you. In a battle, the first person to break down mentally losses."
At the same time, he couldn't help but think, 'What a peculiar method he has.'
Sam stretches his arm then looks at teacher Lucas. Upon eye contact, Sam smiles then quickly look away.
What's with that lit-up eyes? Is he amazed?
Sam caught Lucas's attention ever since he joined after showing amazing focus and courage. He has then been testing him here and there. But he continued to show even more strange and unorthodox methods which made Lucas even more interested in him. Not to mention his swift and rapid improvement, it's not an exaggeration to call Sam one of the best students in the academy. He was even given a nickname, "The Yellow Afterimage" one of the Academy's Three Swordsmen. Which are 2nd year Earl Grey, 5th year James Bailey, and 3rd year Sam Lux.
But unbeknownst to him, another person has been keeping an eye on him the entire time...
"Thank you, Sam, you may now return to your seat." He said with a smile.
"Yes sir." He replied.
He bowed down and returned the sword to the weapon rack. Making his way down the stage after. As he walked towards his seat, he got greeted by his classmates. He felt uncomfortable, but ultimately smiled back and nodded.
Though it was a bit awkward, he managed to reach back to his seat and was greeted even more. This time it felt more comfortable as it was his friends.
"Nice one, S-", "Great job!" Emily said with a big grin as she cuts off Ren.
"Emily..." He said as he pinched her cheeks.
"Watsh yeor prohblem?" She replied.
"Haa.." Sam sighed as he faced the board to avoid getting caught up in their argument.
....
The rest of the class went on without anything unusual happening, it even helped Sam refresh his memories more. During which he takes out a worn-out notebook and starts writing.
According to the knowledge I've unearthed in my deep brain, and that's been mentioned by teacher Lucas also, medicine books are in the same category as skill books, why? I don't know, go learn them yourself. The contents are ranked; basic, master, and heavenly. Which are the. divided into three levels, lower, upper and superior.
Also, skill books are not only limited to physical training, some books may also be ways to increase mental strength.
Haa...that's a lot, but there's even more. I can't believe I've forgotten all of these, I feel like a child learning all the basics again...Anyways, let me continue.
So far there are skill books, which consist of sword skills, footwork skills, and medicine books. Oh, I forgot to mention, but even if it's called sword skills, some books may be focused on other weapons for example a bow. But besides the skill books, there are also manuals, these consist of spell manuals, (pretty self-explanatory.) and ordinary manuals, whether it be on planting or smithing, you name it.
Haa...that's enough learning for now, my mind is about to explode taking in all this information, not to mention this is only the first class!
As Sam was thinking about all of this, teacher Lucas went down the stage and spoke, "Thank you all for coming today, it seems that's all the time we have for today." He said with a smile. "I hoped you enjoyed the lesson and were able to learn a thing or two. I'll see you all tomorrow. Goodbye."
Even though they were already dismissed, and almost everybody was leaving already, Sam was still busy jotting down the lesson and adding his thoughts to it. It wasn't only after Ren had smacked his head with a book that he noticed.
He quickly cleaned his table and left the building. They had different classes next so they had said their goodbyes and parted ways.
Whilst walking to his next class, Sam continued writing in his notebook.
Sam was a pretty lazy student, to begin with despite his reputation, but as to not let down his village, he figured he could take notes to learn them later on. Which soon became a habit of his.
I have to say, teacher Lucas has such good teaching skills! His lessons are easy to grasp, not only that but there's something about him that just captivates you and makes you focus on him.
...Which I think is because of his princely face but let's just say it's because of his aura.
After writing down all his thoughts, in a note kind of diary way, he puts the notebook back in his blazer while the pen was inserted inside his pocket.
If I remember correctly, the next class should be social studies, and this year we're focusing on geography.
Just as he thought of that, he takes a turn and arrives at his destination. A small glass dome, hidden in the shadows of a bigger building.
Sam sighs in relief as he notices the shade. Because of the way the classroom was built, there were some days where the heat was unavoidable as the sun was directly above them, cooking the students alive.
This sight brings some rather painful memories...
"Excuse me!"
