Whilst lining up on the hot Tuesday morning, a girl suddenly lines up in front of Ren and taps Sam's back.
"Emily?!" Sam exclaimed as he turns around to see a familiar face. "What're you doing here?!"
"Hehe, surprised?" She teasingly said. "It's been a while-"
"Of course I am! I've been trying to get you to try out a sword since way back when we were kids!" Sam yelled.
Despite the short amnesia, the memory resurfaced immediately. Sam's life is dedicated to sword and magic as the village's hope, the burden was greatly carved into him, he would usually space out to ease the weights placed on him. Because of it, he became forgetful, today was the first time that it had become this severe. But even so, the memories he had with Emily quickly came out.
Emily's eyes widen at Sam's reaction, it seems like what she has been doing had angered him. She didn't refuse because she didn't want to use the sword, she refused as she can't handle being alone with him. Yes, Emily is in love with Sam.
"Didn't a certain someone say they won't hold a sword?" Ren said. "I wonder who that is."
"When have I mentioned I won't ever hold a sword?" Emily answered. "Looks like someone has to get checked up mentally~"
Ren clicks his tongue irritated but quickly comes up with the following insult.
"You? Using a sword?" He scoffed.
As Ren said that, Sam continues glaring at her.
"I'm sorry then, you guys don't have to be so cold. And it's not like you're that good yourself." She retorted.
"What's that? You-" Sam cuts him off when he puts himself between them and extended his arms.
"Let's stop it now before things get worse, we're in class," Sam said.
"Tell that to her," Ren replied.
"Bleh." Emily puts her tongue out.
"Haa...enough, the past is the past," Sam said.
"Wow, are you sure you're Sam? You're oddly mature." Ren added.
Sam faces Emily and places his hand on her shoulders. 'Eek!' Emily shrieked inside her mind.
"Look, even if I'm slightly irritated since you refused my offer but came to this class, it's fine. What's more, if you need help, just approach me." He said as he takes off his hand.
Because of Sam's kind words, and Emily's feelings for him, she hides her face and blushes.
"But don't we have teacher Lucas for that?" Followed Ren. Sam turning around to look at him, wasn't able to see Emily's blushing face. "Just saying if it's anything minor, she can go to me, as to avoid burdening teacher more."
"Ew, you're disgustingly mature, what happened to the idiotic Sam?! Give him back!" Ren jokingly exclaimed.
Suddenly, teacher Lucas who was now on top of the stage spoke, "Since everyone's already acquainted, let us start class. Please go to your respective seats. As for the new students, get some from the stacked up chairs there" He stated as he points towards the back room before facing the blackboard to his left.
"This year, as I've told you last week, we'll be focusing on sword and footwork skills." He said as he uses light magic to point at the board whilst being on stage.
"To refresh your knowledge, let me summarize them for you. But first, an announcement. This class will be joined by an additional 200 students, as you've seen earlier. It may sound like a lot, but fret not for I'll treat you all equally." Lucas added.
"Now then, sword skills are mana embedded in swords that can be altered to your will, like a spell. While footwork skills are effective ways of circulating your mana in your body, allowing you to have either superhuman strength or unfathomable speed."
"Today, we'll be learning this spell." Teacher Lucas said as he points to the spell written on the blackboard with his light magic.
Flame Strike? That's a spell in between basic and intermediate tier...Kind of complicated-
"Sam, come up here and show us how's it done." Teacher Lucas said as he smiles at him.
Me?! Okay, okay, don't panic, let's try recalling how to use magic.
"Yes sir!" Sam replied as he walks up to the stage, a circular platform with knee-high elevation and fancy marble flooring. The scratches and cracks on it indicated that it's seen many battles.
Uwa...what a waste, just a palm worth of marble is already worth 8000 silver...
He takes a slow deep breath, replacing the nervousness to focus.
Okay, magic, it's like using your body. When using a sword, you shift your weight, using magic is exactly like that. As you put energy on your feet and upper body to swing a sword, you let the weight swing with your arm. But instead, you'll use mana and focus on the body part or weapon you're going to use. Gather the mana there, and when it feels like it's full, let go then boom! Mana itself feels like hot energy that's constantly flowing in your body through mana veins.
....
"Are you ready Sam?" Teacher Lucas asked.
"Yes," Sam replies hesitantly as he grabs a sword from the weapon racks.
Haa...here goes nothing.
