The Dark Alley

Hi, I am Samuel Alexander but my friends call me Sam. Or should I say they used to. Due to my father’s job our family have had to shift to a lot of places in the past few years, so I rearly make friends anymore. Maybe it’s because I don’t like goodbyes or I was meant to be a

loner. Well it was just another day in my life. My family had to shift from Canada to Seoul. I didn’t know how to speak Korean that much so it was expected that I wouldn’t make any friends. The only thing I was good at were studies. When people were playing soccer I used to read books in my room. Due to that I know a lot more than an average high schooler. I even won many science competitions but my life has not changed a bit. I have been a loner my whole life and that is not going to change.

It was my first day at school, but I transferred in so late that I had to catch up in my studies. It was an easy task for a bookworm like me. I never expected that studies would be so easy. I sat in the library all day writing notes and got so in flow that I finished the work without having the track of time. By the time I was finished it was almost sunset. The yellowish rays of sun comming from the window and the light breeze clamed my heart. I could have lived in that movement forever.

I decided to walk to my apartment. My parents thought that I should learn to live independently. The road was unusually quite. I was used to the traffic in Canada, but for the road to be this quite in the evening was odd. On my way something caught my eye. I saw two strange men talking to each other in a sketchy dark alley.

One of them was tall and thin, had a long white beard, long pointed ears and was wearing a long purple robe with a staff in his hand. The other one was like a dwarf from a fantasy novel. He was fat and short, had a curly beard, wore a rugged shirt, cappery pants, and big shoes. He had a darkish skin tone and looked like he hadn’t taken a shower in years. The tall one spoke elegantly and had a soft voice, like that of a sage while the other one spoke loudly with a heavy and deep voice. It looked like they were cosplaying and searching for something.

“Did you find it?” yelled the short one. “No, I think it’s not in this planet.”replied the elf looking guy gently. “Oh! You useless piece of trash.”

“My apologies, but my I say that you are the one who lost it in the first place.”They began arguing about something but finally came to a conclusion. “ We will inform the dark one that we couldn’t find it in the first place.”said the tall one while looking at the wall at the end of the alley. “You noble births are as sly as ever” complimented the dwarf while smirking. The elf chanting some words I couldn’t understand, a portal opened in the wall while they walked in it and disappeared!

I was terrified by all this but still followed my guts and got to the spot where they standing. Something there catches my eye. A butterfly was sitting on something shiny in the bushes. I tried to catch it but it flew away revealing a beautiful golden ring with a dragon inscribed on it. I picked it up and I got an urge to wear it. I heard a voice in my mind “Whatever you want I can give you, whatever you desire shall be yours, money, power, fame, respect, beauty, those who have had me never felt sorrow or regret. Wear me and you shall rule the world. My power will be yours and yours will be mine. My hands moved on their own and before I knew it the ring was in my finger. The

movement I wore it, I felt dizzy and my head started to spin. The view in front in front of me became a blur.

I don’t remember what happened next but my body felt weak, my eyelids became heavy and I fainted.

By the time I opened my, I found myself under a beautiful tree. The wind blew calmly, and i felt it gently touch my cheeks. The place was beautiful. The shade of the tree was so relaying that it nearly made me go to sleep again. Until a thought came to my mind
