Daniel was genuinely astounded, because the person who had sent the 600 million was Erwin, seated across from him. This completely exceeded his expectations.
“Bro, are you serious?” Daniel asked, eyes widening in disbelief.
“Serious, I told you I won the lottery,” Erwin reiterated.
“Sorry, I got too excited! How much did you win?” Daniel inquired eagerly.
“Not much, just a billion!” Erwin tossed the figure out nonchalantly, not daring to divulge his true, unlimited net worth for fear of shocking Daniel to death.
“A billion's still a lot, who knew you'd get dumped but win the lottery! Come on, let's drink our fill.” Daniel jovially raised his beer glass, inviting Erwin to join in the toast.
With this 600 million, his girlfriend Agnes could finally undergo the surgery, and the weight that had been pressing on his heart could at last be relieved for the moment.
"Bro, consider this 600 million a loan from you, I'll repay it once I have the money," Daniel maintained his principle. Even if Erwin was his best friend, money was money, and love was love.
“No rush!” Erwin said smilingly, because for the current Erwin, 600 million was truly insignificant.
They chatted briefly, and something else seemed to come to Daniel's mind.
"By the way, there's a class reunion this weekend, and your ex-girlfriend Leticia is going too, are you planning to attend?"
“Going, of course, why not?” Erwin also knew about his classmates discussing the reunion earlier, but he had been unemployed then, so he had been indifferent to it out of embarrassment. But now that his true identity was known, he would definitely attend.
"Speaking of which, have they decided on the venue? I haven't really been paying attention."
"The Hilton Hotel, I heard that our class flower, Lina Aleda, just returned from abroad, so she's participating in this reunion too, and I hear she's still single." Daniel hinted meaningfully to Erwin.
How could Erwin not understand what Daniel meant, that now that he was single again, he could pursue Lina.
Moreover, back in college, Erwin had once pursued Lina, but just when things were about to get serious, Lina chose to study abroad and Erwin had turned his attention to Leticia.
“Don't joke, I'm unemployed right now, no way she'd be interested,” Erwin said smilingly, because he didn't care about it anymore; years had passed, his feelings weren't the same, nor was he the person he used to be.
Erwin now looked forward to meeting his fiancee, Jocelyn, more than anyone else; compared to her, no other woman could match in looks or wealth background.
After parting with Daniel, the satiated Erwin, hauling two large suitcases, prepared to move to the Crown Villa at Oak Bay.
After hailing a taxi with his phone, he took his belongings and headed straight for Oak Bay.
Oak Bay was split into an ordinary apartment-type community and a villa-type garden community; though built in close proximity, price disparity was at least tenfold, with residents also stratified.
The taxi driver delivered Erwin to the Oak Bay Service Department. Stepping out of the car, Erwin, dragging two bulky cases, seemed lost. Fortunately, after a few paces, he reached the Oak Bay Community Service Department.
"I'll ask inside, who knows if Damon has arranged it for me yet."
Thinking this, Erwin dragged the cases into the service department, not expecting to encounter two familiar faces.
The couple was Leticia and her rich, handsome boyfriend, seeming to have just completed a house purchase and readying to leave, but they spotted Erwin entering with his suitcases.
“Erwin, why are you here?” Leticia looked puzzled, while Adam Jones's mouth curled slightly, relishing an opportunity to flaunt before Erwin.
Erwin, seeing Leticia and Adam, furrowed his brow slightly; it seemed Adam had indeed taken Leticia to buy a house here.
"Erwin, what a coincidence, why come to Oak Bay? You wouldn't be stalking Leticia, right?!” Adam remarked with a tinge of sarcasm.
"You're overthinking; I'm moving here,” Erwin responded indifferently.
At that moment, Leticia and Adam noticed indeed Erwin was here with his luggage.
"Erwin, planning to rent here? You know the rent's not cheap, and without a job, you can't afford to stay," Leticia said scornfully.
“What's it to you if I can't afford it?" Erwin replied coldly.
"It's none of my concern, but you should stop following me; we're worlds apart now." Leticia surmised Erwin moved here to watch her closely, so to discourage him, she flaunted her LV bag, the deed to her home, saying, "Notice this, the LV bag worth millions, the Oak Bay house for 1.6 billion, these are luxuries you'll never afford."
Adam's smirk grew as he recollected that Erwin had annoyingly spent 20 million the previous night; now he had the chance to gloat, a feeling of triumph took hold of him.
"Poor boy, observe well, this is capability; without money, don't pretend in front of others."
After his speech, Adam embraced Leticia, ready to depart victoriously. However, Caesar Martin, the department manager, after sighting Erwin, exhaled relievedly.
The general manager had personally instructed him to warmly receive a VIP named Erwin and accommodate him in a top-class garden villa in Oak Bay. A mistake would mean dismissal, and the general manager had sent Erwin's photo as well.
So all day, Caesar, the department manager, anxiously awaited Erwin's arrival. When Erwin finally appeared, confirming his identity with the photo, Caesar had no doubt and respectfully greeted Erwin.
"Mr. Smith, I'm the manager of the Oak Bay Service Department. A Crown Villa has been prepared for you; please follow me.”
“Mm.” Erwin nodded slightly, as if it was all but expected.
But Leticia and Adam stood agape, disbelieving at hearing this.
"Oak Bay Crown Villa, at least 160 billion? Is this pauper really staying there?" At first triumphant, Adam was now dumbstruck.
And Leticia, in disbelief, wondered how Erwin, who couldn't even pay rent, was able to live in the Crown Villa.
Erwin disregarded the couple, but after a few steps, he turned back and said to a stunned Leticia.
"By the way, Leticia, I quite agree with what you said."
"Which part?" Leticia asked.
“That we are indeed no longer in the same world.” Erwin smiled faintly and echoed her words back onto Leticia in full.
