Chapter 5: An explanation (not a chapter)

...In this world people have soul mates....

...From a really young age some people go to school and learn about how it's possible to write on your skin and it shows up on someone else. (Taehyung is actually studying it)...

...It's actually a pretty simple explanation....

...Before you live your soul is attached to someone else's soul and what has been attached will always want to be attached again...

...Or at least that's the elementary school explanation....

...In more scientific terms it has to deal with how when the university was created your atoms were close together with your soul mates (SM for short) and atoms will always come back together...

...The hardest thing that a person can ever do is stay away from your soul mate once you realize who it is. It has driven people insane before. It barely ever happens because of "the pull"...

..."The pull" is your soul wanting to be complete....

...In elementary school terms, "the pull" is when you have a need for your soul mate. Once you realize who your soul mate is you start to feel "the pull". It gets even harder to be away from your soul mate when you are in a relationship with them because it basically means your souls become one. Hence the nickname 'other half'....

...(This is why Jimin's parents are still together. Although his dad is a shitty **** he is Ms. Parks soul mate and if they were to ever be apart they would start to want each other like crazy and have mood swings (ex: depression/anger). But as soon as they see each other again it would go right back to him cheating on her and her being alone bc let's face it in this story Jimin gets his loyalty and basically all good traits from his mom.)...

...There are things called bond's (they are a side effect of "the pull"). These are special things a soul mates can have. The most common one is the calm bond, (the one Namjoon and Jin have). This bond means that no matter how anxious or worried you may be, being with your soul mate will calm you. There are some bond's that fade away once your soul mate dies. It's very rare to have a bond after your other half has died but there have been cases of it happening. It's called the second love bond. This means that once you've found a person that you love wholeheartedly you start getting writing again and have to find your new other half. People that get the second love bond are viewed as people who have had a lot of pain in their life and the universe feels it has messed up. The rarest bond someone could have is called the healing bond. It use to be a bond that was seen much more in the medieval days because people would often get hurt. The healing bond means if you are injured very badly, even on the brink of death, all you have to do is be with your soul mate and you are very likely to have a full recovery. Now, because of modern medicine and better hygiene, it is a bond that is now going extinct....

...Once you're soul mate dies you are left with what seems like a Crater where your heart should be. You stop feeling "the pull" but the chances of you ever finding love like you once had are next to impossible. There have been very few cases of people getting another soul mate and even then scientists aren't entirely sure how it happened. But aside from seeing your soul mate seriously injured, when your soul mate dies its the worst pain you ever feel. From your heart to you brain. Physically and emotionally. Because if your soul mate dies a part of you dies too....

...If you were born without a soul mate you are considered to have a disability. People take pity on you and treat you differently. These are the kids that usually get bullied for being different. In this world it's not a big deal about being born a certain color or having a certain sexuality or being born the wrong gender. It's about having or not having a soul mate. A life of a soul mateless person is twice as hard as one who does have one. The reasons vary. The main one being that if you don't have one people assume that in your past life you royally fucked up (maybe murdered someone or something along those lines) and because of that they are usually not trusted and are discriminated against. For instance some priests refuse to marry people who aren't soul mates. Thus making it extremely hard for those without one. Also if you give birth to a child without one you tend to be an outcast. Friends you once had will become distant because they don't want their children to be around yours. Probably because it's a stereotype for people with no soul mate to be more "slutty"....

...(Taehyung's mother always accepted him although it was hard seeing her family think of her as a person who brought sin into the world. Needless to say Taehyung never really got to know his family on his mother's side. But it was harder for Taehyung's father. He took business trips anytime he could to be away from his family. Not because he hated Taehyung, oh god no He loved that boy more than himself, just he didn't know how to deal with it. but when Taehyung was nine years old his father walked in on him crying into his pillow. He had asked what happened when he saw the swollen black eye that his son had and Taehyung told him that the kids at school were bullying him. Taehyung told him that it's usually not that bad but today he was with his friend Jimin and they were walking home, holding hands because Taehyung liked to do that, (and no dad I don't have a crush on Jimin. He's like an older brother. Ew) when the kids that pick on him saw them. Jimin had stood up for Taehyung but got beaten up pretty badly. Frankly the reason Taehyung was crying that night wasn't because he got hurt, It was because Jimin had. But after that night Taehyung's father decided he didn't have to know exactly how he had to deal with his son not having a soul mate. He would just be there for his son and take up for him as long as he could. The next day he went up to his son school and made sure the kids who hurt Taehyung and his friend were dealt with)...

...Even though soul mates are supposed to love each other with their whole being sadly the universe still makes mistakes. There are cases where even though you have found your other half you don't love them. You still feel the pull but you don't have any romantic feelings for them....

...(Jimin is terrified that will happen to him because that is what happened with his parents. He doesn't want to be hurt. He grew up seeing his parents grow to hate each other and his mother being hurt because of Mr. Park's cheating. This is why Jimin would rather be alone then with his soul mate. He is so scared that it will turn out the same for him. It doesn't help that it also happened to Jimin's grandparents and great great grandparents. The only one in his family that he knew of having found their soul mate and actually fell in love with them is his aunt. She was lucky though.)...

...Background information on Yoongi:...

...Yoongi has spent his whole life seeing people find their soul mate and live happily ever after. Every one in his family found their soul mates at a very young age. Yoongi is the only one in his family that is over 20 and hasn't met their soul mate. Every year at family reunions his grandmother would ask him about it and every year it would be the same answer, 'they don't message me back grandma. If I could find them I would without hesitation.' Even his friends found theirs before they were 20. Jin found Namjoon when he was 16 and Hoseok found Sangho when he was 14...

...But his family and friends aren't the reason he wants his soul mate. They just remind him he doesn't have his....

...If he was being honest Yoongi always wanted someone to love and for someone to love him. He has always wanted to know what it feels like to be accepted by someone other than your family. But the closest he has ever gotten to that are one night stands....

...Which he finds himself having a lot of nowadays with people he can barely even remember the name of. Boy, girls, anyone who will love him even if it's for a short period of time. Anyone who will take the pang of loneliness he has every night....

...He knows it's pathetic. But he is kinda pathetic....

...Or at least he thinks that of himself....

...That's another thing about Yoongi. He doesn't even think about his soul mate not being ready or not wanting to be in a relationship. He thinks that it's him. He thinks he isn't good enough....

...Although that could be because of the way was raised....

...His parents always had work and often forgot about their son. They didn't make sure he knew how special he was. So when Yoongi was in his early teens he always wondered why he wasn't good enough. For his family, for his soul mate, and his friends. He was often the outcasts at school. The only time he ever fit in was when he played basketball but that wasn't something he liked doing for competition. The thing he loved most was music....

...When Yoongi decided to major in music his parents were so disappointed. They told Yoongi to actually do something with his life, like become a doctor or lawyer or just something better than a musician....

...He remembers the last time he saw his parents. He'll never forget that night. It was Christmas break and he was so excited because he finally realized what he wanted to major in. He had looked everything up and he knew how much everything would cost and everything. Now he just had to tell his parents. So he did, and they were not happy. They got into an argument. Insults were used, tears were shed, suitcases were packed. It had been about 2 years since he has spoken to his parents and honestly he could care less. He refused to be something he didn't want to be....
