~Sophia’s POV~
Splashing the ice-cold water on my face, I looked up at the mirror and cringed at my reflection. The bags under my eyes clearly portrayed my lack of sleep these past few days.
When the tears refused to come, I felt myself going into withdrawal, simply giving up on life. Demetrius has noticed as well but his concern was the least of my worries.
Picking up my shoulder bag, I left the room and went downstairs.
I didn't utter a word as I made my move towards the door.
"And where do you think you are going?" Demetrius inquired staring at me long and hard. I vaguely responded.
"Out."
"Out where?"
"Just, out." Stunning him into silence, he slowly got up of his chair and approached me.
"You didn't answer my question Sophia, I said, where?" He moved past me to stand in front of the door, his large frame made it almost impossible for me to get past him.
"It's none of your business." I muttered looking down.
"Oh really? Fine, turn around and go back upstairs because you're not going anywhere." I could see how much he was trying to control his temper, but that restraint didn't last long when I only added to his anger.
"You know what? Fvck you! Fvck you and your rules. Fvck you and your stupid jealousy. They can all go to hell for all I care. You stand in front of me all high mighty like you know everything, but you are just as clueless as the next person. I am going and there is nothing you can do to stop me!" At the end of my outburst, I could feel the moisture forming in my eyes and I had to blink severely to prevent them from rolling down my cheeks.
Demetrius only stared at me; I could tell his restraint was broken and he was mad, really mad. Wordlessly, he grabbed my arm and began to drag me upstairs, further away from the door.
"Demetrius, you're hurting me!" I struggled against his hold, praying he would loosen the iron grip he had on my arm.
"I am not your doll, so don't treat me like one." I muttered when he all but threw me onto the bed.
"What is wrong with you?" He asked harshly staring at me as if I was a complete stranger and as much as I hated to admit it, it stung, a lot.
"What? Because I don't pay heed to your every word and I'm no longer at your back and call there is all of a sudden something wrong with me?" I questioned sarcastically wanting nothing-nothing more than to slap the infuriating man in front of me.
He glared at me. "Of course not, do not be so infantile Sophia."
"Then what? Why do you now think there's something wrong with me?"
He slammed his fists on the nearby table, I didn't flinch. "Haven't you noticed Sophia? You are so much more distant; you are sad all time and you no longer respect me."
"Well, I'm sorry if I don't agree with your idea of a healthy marriage because you telling me what to do all the time is certainly not my idea of one."
Running a frustrated hand through his curly hair he paced angrily across the room. "See there it is, your smart mouth, your constant need to start an argument with me, that may be your idea of a healthy marriage but it certainly isn't mine."
Folding my arms stubbornly across my chest I spoke. "I don't know what you’re talking about."
He suddenly stopped, looking directly into my eyes I suddenly became uncomfortable. "If my assumption is wrong then tell me, don't just stand there and act like nothing is wrong with you!"
Looking down in defeat I whispered. "I can't."
Shouting a line of curses in Greek he barely looked at me before storming out of the room and slamming the door. This time I did flinch.
When I was sure he had left, I attempted to open the door. Locked, of course.
Sighing, I looked reluctantly at the window and knew I had no choice.
Quietly opening the window, I carefully slid out and held onto a nearby branch. Swinging myself forward I landed on the pavement and dusted my hands.
Demetrius was clueless to the fact that I was a three-time gymnast champion among other things he failed to find out when we met.
‘I've gone out.’ I texted Demetrius and quickly turned off my phone.
I had more things to worry about than my husband’s over-protective attitude.
For instance, where the hell is the Night-howlers club?
A str!ppers club! This place was a freaking str!ppers club! I was absolutely mortified when I walked inside to see a group of ladies, half-nak3d, dancing around a bunch of sweaty old guys, it made me sick to my stomach.
Pushing through the crowds of dancers, I screamed when I was roughly pulled to a chest.
"You're late." He whispered, still dancing against me. I stood frozen with fear, it was him.
"You didn't specify time, so I was unsure." I managed to reply. I felt his grip tighten dangerously around me.
"Don't argue." I quickly nodded, his hold terminating my ability to speak.
"Drink?" He suddenly let go of me. I immediately swallowed a huge gulp of air, relieved I could breathe again.
By the time I looked up he was already walking away from me and I had to run to catch up.
"I'll have two shots of tequila." He ordered, taking a seat on one of the stools. I took the seat next to him.
"Why did you kill her?" I asked, not daring to look at the scary man next to me. "To tie up loose ends."
"What do you mean by that?" I looked at him strangely. "Mabel is a client of mine." He smirked at me, enjoying the look of puzzlement on my face.
"Client? I still don't understand."
"Boy you're dumb." He sighed irritated. "Long story short, she watches over people for me and I pay her, simple."
"Basically, she's a spy?" He clapped his hands together.
"Exactly." I couldn't help but feel slightly hurt at this revelation Mabel was never my friend, she was never there to help me, she was just there to spy on me.
"Don't look so sad princess, she's dead now. It won't take long before the rats start feasting on her decaying body." He sent me a toothy grin and I shuddered in disgust; this man was mental.
"But that still doesn't explain how she knew I would go to a psychiatrist for help."
"I told you, Mabel was my spy, she was always watching you, but you never realized, she knows every move you make before you even make it. Too bad she had to die, she was very good at her job, but she knew too much."
I stared at him in shock. "Is that how you go around killing all your clients when they know too much?"
He actually had the nerve to laugh. "Of course not. Mabel was a curious one, she saw what she shouldn't have seen, so she had to go."
I didn't respond, what could I possibly say to a man that had no regard for human life?
"Enough about Mabel, I brought you here for a reason." He began, quickly downing his shot. He pushed mine closer to me but I acted as if I didn't see it.
"People are after your husband, bad people and they will do anything to get him." He started explain.
"Why Demetrius? Did he do anything to offend these people?"
"That's what I'm still trying to figure out." He muttered rubbing his stumbled jawline.
"Wait, why are you telling me this? You hate me." I looked at the man suspiciously wondering if he was actually telling me the truth.
"On the contrary princess, I hate your husband, not you. His downfall is my gain. The reason I'm telling you this is to make you leave him because it’s not safe, you’re not safe."
I stared at him and I couldn't help but laugh. "Leave my husband? No way."
"This is no joke." He grabbed both sides of my stool and pulled me closer until I was inches away from his alcohol scented body. I forced myself not to gag.
"If you continue to stay with Demetrius, you're as good as dead." He warned.
"If you are telling the truth, why don't you allow me to warn Demetrius, so we can leave together."
"Like I said before, it's him I hate, so his death is a bonus for me. It's you I'm worried about."
I pondered on his words but I knew I couldn't abandon my husband because I know exactly what will happen, they'll kill him.
"I'm sorry but I cannot do that, I can't just leave my husband alone to be killed."
"You're not understanding me, if you do not leave, you're as good as dead. They'll kill both of you, wouldn't you rather be the one to make it out alive?"
"Thank you for your information, but I'll take my chances." Standing up to take my leave, I was immediately pulled back down, my arm in a vice grip.
"Now you listen here b!tch, you don't leave till I tell you to leave. Got it?"
"Got it." I gasped, groaning in pain.
"Good, our next meeting will be in a week since I need time to find out more."
"Well, I have already told you that I am not leaving my husband, so I don't think your extra information will be needed."
I saw his hand go up and I closed my eyes, preparing for impact.
"That smart mouth of yours is going to break your marriage apart much sooner than you think. I hate to admit it but Demetrius was right."
I didn't know whether to be shocked or angry. "You saw that?"
"I have spies everywhere; nothing gets past me." He chuckled brushing his hand down my arm, instantly I moved my stool further away from him.
He laughed lightly, lighting up a cigarette. "Until next time princess." With a small nod, he was gone, swallowed in the mass of drunken bodies.
