VORACIOUS- 9

~Sophia’s POV~

"M-my name?"

"Yes miss, your name is required if we are to carry forward with your application."

"Erm..." I looked to the right and noticed a coupon for Betsy's Bakery. "My-my name is Betsy." I nodded as if I was confirming to myself, it was indeed my name.

"Surname?"

"Roberts." I answered automatically.

"Ok, thank you for your application, we will get back to you within 3 days, confirming appointment date and time-"

"Can you contact me through email please?"

"Of course, miss Roberts."

"Thank you...goodbye."

"Goodbye Miss Roberts."

I ended the call and let out a huge sigh of relief, I thought for sure I would be busted when it took me longer than 3 seconds to say my own name.

Seeking the help of a psychiatrist was the only solution I had left since Demetrius has now resulted to asking me if I'm okay every ten seconds.

I know he sees me as a lunatic who won't stop fainting and I aim to ridicule that image he has of me.

Even if it means admitting to myself that I have a problem.

I looked up nervously at the wooden door in front of me, its metal knob reflected the sun beautifully. I rubbed my sweaty palms onto the fabric of my shirt and knocked on the door.

I had managed to get through the embarrassment of walking into the building wearing my pajamas, this therefore should be a piece of cake.

I adjusted my wig, hoping my disguise wasn't too noticeable.

"Come in." I barely heard the woman's voice; holding the door knob I took a deep breath before entering the room.

"Mrs. Danty?" I asked, standing awkwardly at the doorway of her office.

"Yes, come in. Mrs. Roberts, I presume?" I nodded.

"Take a seat." I gave her a small smile before sitting down on the comfortable sofa.

"Let's start with the reason you came here." She brought out a small clipboard and pen and waited for me to begin speaking.

I looked up at the woman in front of me, she was skinny and very beautiful, her almond-colored eyes appeared almost cat like in the sun and her long brunette hair flowed elegantly to her chest. She couldn't be more than thirty-five.

"Well, it's quiet stupid really." I wrung my hands together and laughed humorously. "I cry whenever my husband touches me and on one occasion I even fainted."

She didn't share my lame attempt for amusement instead she only nodded and began to write on her clipboard.

"Can you tell me why you begin to cry?'

I took a deep breath before answering the question. "On our vacation to Caribbean, my husband caught me talking to another man, he misunderstood and started to attack the innocent person..." I couldn't finish my sentence; I took out a tissue and began to wipe my eyes as they filled with tears.

Mabel softly patted my leg as a sign of comfort and I gave her a reassuring smile.

"Sorry to ask, but is the first time this has happened?"

"No." I whispered. She only nods and begins to write more in her clipboard.

"Is there anything that sparks this reaction?'

"Yes...there is a bruise on his hand from when he had punched the man, every time I look at it, I am taken back to that horrible day." I shakily reach for the cup of water Mabel had set aside on the table for me and drink the cool liquid.

"Are you experiencing any nightmares, involving your husband?" Mable asked.

"None except the one time I had fainted."

"How have you been coping so far with everything?" Mable asked and I couldn't help the irritated sigh and very noticeable eye roll at her obvious question.

"Not very well, seeing as I can't stop myself from crying whenever my own husband comes near me!" I answered icily, feeling myself burn with fury, I quickly compose myself knowing I had allowed my emotions to get the best of me. Mable didn't allow my abrupt display of anger hinder her work, she nodded sympathetically and started to write something in her clip board. I strained my neck to see what she was writing but the writing was so small and elegant, I gave up and sat back in my seat.

“Are you having any trouble at home?”

"Yes, you incompetent psychiatrist! That is the exact reason I am here!" I saw the fear in Mable's eyes as she shakily nodded and began to write some form of analysis in her clipboard, today I have been extremely on edge and I can't stop myself from taking it out on the woman that is trying to help me.

"How do you feel whenever he touches you?" She asked nervously as if she was afraid, she would ask the wrong question and I would lash out again.

I let out a huge breath of air and took a long sip of the cold water, hoping it would help to control my temper and keep me serene. "I feel like he has transported me back to that unforgettable day and I see him, punching and kicking that innocent man, it's all so real that I begin to have a mental breakdown, but when I pull away from him, the nightmare disappears." I trailed of not thinking I can continue describing what I have to go through every day. I blink repeatedly to stop the tears from falling.

"Is he ever violent to you?" Mabel's eyes widen in concern and immediately shake my head. "I assure you he has never." "Okay." Mabel still gives me a worried stare and I shift uncomfortably in my seat.

"In my own professional opinion, I believe your fear center around the accumulation of all these incidents and the guilt you have felt after every single one of them, combined together to create one huge psychological burden that has forced you to somehow envision all these events as if you were trying to right your husband's wrongs. One solution to all of this could be that you try and find your husband's good aspects, the things that made you fall in love with him and not just base your fear on these incidents, hopefully the man you know behind the violence outweighs your terror. " She explained smoothly and I nodded despite how clueless she was to who Demetrius really is. Was there really better than bad?

I looked up at the clock and immediately panicked, Demetrius would be awake any moment from now.

"Mabel, I think my session is over." I stood up and she did the same.

"It is indeed, how time flies." She chatted humorously; I just about managed a half-hearted smile.

"Same time next week?"

"Of course, thank you very much Mabel." I smiled warmly at her, shaking her hand and walking out of the room.

I silently entered through the window, not bothering to shut it, knowing that the noise would definitely wake up Demetrius.

I gently removed the pillow I put into Demetrius' arms in place of me and quietly entered the silky sheets.

Immediately finding warmth in his body, I snuggled closer to him and smiled, it didn't take long before I was fast asleep.
