episode 5

After his strange meeting with Rivier, Croft sat on a sofa and looked over his documents.

The number of papers he had to memorize were endless, but he just couldn't concentrate.

He shook his head, trying to forget how Rivier had struck him on his chin before he gave up and put the documents down.

Thump!

The door loudly slammed open, and fortunately, the door wasn't broken.

"Captain!"

"You're too loud, Melic."

"Is it true that you hit lady Blanche?!"

Croft, who was sitting with his back towards the door, turned his head around so quickly, Melic could've sworn he heard a cracking sound.

Croft's three knights all wore troubled expressions as they walked into the room. Melic's mouth was wide open, Blake's face was full of concern, and chester fumbled in fidgeting.

Melic, whose young face didn't quite match his muscular body, yelled at his master. Actually, it's more like he asked.

It seemed as if he was interrogating his master, but it was only a couple of questions.

"It's a lie, isn't it? right? If captain really wanted to kill someone, they'd be dead already. you're not the type of scum who'd hit a woman, are you?"

Croft rubbed his temples. His headache wasn't because of melic's voice that seemed to make his eardrums burst, but because of what he was saying.

Melic clearly just said that he had just hit a woman. what nonsense, it was him who had gotten hit.

He pushed melic's hand away, who was begging him for answers, and turned to Blake.

"Blake, explain this nonsense that melic is spewing."

"A little while ago, two of the duke's knights requested a duel with us. starting the cause of the duel was thanks to the captain assaulting lady blanche."

"What kind of nonsense is that? so, what else did those knights say?"

"Actually, this idiot knocked them down before i could hear more."

Blake answered, by pointing his finger at melic.

"I told him to stay calm....."

Croft sighed and rubbed his forehead.

Melic misunderstood his actions, thinking Croft was shocked from being exposed and muttered.

"Captain...Even though i didn't see it happen, that was still wrong of you to do..."

"Melic, stop saying nonsense. i didn't hit her."

"Really?! i was right then? I've always believed in you, captain!"

His words contradicted what he had said earlier, so Croft turned away from melic because he knew melic would just respond with his eardrum-shattering voice again.

Blake asked Croft with a worried face.

"But why is there such a rumor going around?"

"That's what i want to know. i mean, the one who got hit wasn't her, but me."

"What? captain, did you get hit? don't tell me it was lady Blanche?!"

"Yeah."

"Yeah? but why would she do that?"

"She said that i shouldn't touch a woman's body."

Croft replied with a laugh, but neither Blake nor melic laughed. melic frowned again and pointed his finger accusingly at Croft.

"You're actually trash..."

"it's not like that, melic."

"I'm disappointed in you, captain."

"I said it wasn't like that."

Croft grumpily tried to defend himself, but melic ran out of the room like he was the one who got hurt instead.

Seeing that, chester sat on the floor and laughed to himself.

"Chester, you're being distracting. so why don't you shut up?!"

"Hahaha, l won't, captain. this is too funny, i just can't stop."

"I know that. shut up."

Chester ignored Croft's fierce glare and continued to giggle and roll around on the floor. but blake turned to croft worriedly.

"Captain, what really happened to you?"

Croft shook his head in annoyance and raked his hand through his hair. He decided to keep his mouth shut and not make any excuses.

"It's not a big deal, i just touched her finger a little bit."

He was going to say that he actually didn't touch her at all, but when he thought about it, he did grab her chin.

Of course, when he did that, he was beaten for it.

He understood being beaten for touching her face, but how come there were rumors that he hit Rivier instead?!

Things were being blown out of propotion, and he couldn't control it.

Blake's forehead wrinkled again as he saw Croft wiping his sweat without another word.

No matter how crazy Croft was, he wasn't a lowly bastard who'd harass a woman.

At least, he believed so...but Croft's reaction is a bit off.
