Chapter-4: A Taste of A Lifetime!

(Geez! Those noisy women finally left!) (That concubine Li, I think she’s hiding something.) (She’s so eager to help me lol. That makes her even more suspicious. Those big reactions. They really are fishy!) “Ahh...since I might not be able to return to my original body for a while, I should take this opportunity to enjoy myself in ancient China before I get my hands into that matter!” I sigh out the words when Xiao Du comes in.

I look down at the hot brown steamy liquid in an antique ceramic bowl which is loaded on a wooden tray. And I smell it curiously “Hmm.. it smells nice. I like it” its faint herbal smell makes me want to drink it. (These types of medicine are what they use in ancient China! I always see these on TV dramas and I’ve always wanted to try them! Those actors always say they’re bitter but this smells so nice! I doubt that it’ll be as bitter as they said!) Eagerly, I drink the medicine in one big gulp.Xiao Du watches me with her eyes wide open.(EHH!? BLOODY HELL! It’s so bitter!!!) “Peww!!” “Ahh! Miss don’t spit out the medicine!” She continues, “The bitter the medicine, the more effective it is!” (Heh! That’s what they say in movies! Now I feel gloomy. I’d rather take sweet poison!) “Thank goodness you didn’t spill a lot of the medicine. It’s so expensive. You need to take full dose to fight the poison in your body!” Xiao Du exclaims as she wipes my face and she puts the bowl away to sit beside me.[grumble....] “Xiao Du, I’m so hungry! Go prepare the best foods you have in the kitchen” I tell her holding my growling stomach. Xiao Du makes a faint chuckle and says “Don’t worry Miss, our household is one of the richest in Chang’an! Our kitchen has everything one can imagine! Let me go tell the cook to prepare your favorite dishes!”

“Okay, go prepare fast. I can eat a horse now”,I told her.

She leaves the room quickly,laughing at my words.When I hear her saying, “Yes,Miss!”, she’s already out of the room. (Hehe, Xiao Du is so cute just like my nanny back in London!She’s just a lot younger and more energetic!)

Bowls after bowls,plates after plates. I ate like a pig. (These might be able to serve at least 10 people!) (Who cares! These dishes are sooo delicious!) They are very different from what I used to eat but I don’t mind indulging my taste buds with authentic Chinese cuisine once in a while. (These are god level!) ( How can ancient Chinese chefs create these spectacular dishes!) (In ancient Britain,we didn’t have nothing more than bread and roasted meat to call a god level dish!) I’ve had Chinese dishes in modern day but these are even better!

“Yum, these stir-fried vegetables are so delicious! Bok Choi, cabbage and lettuce and peppers too! Xiao Du! Come and have some too!” I offer Xiao Du a big spoonful of it.

“Miss, I dare not. I’m a servant.” Xiao Du refuses. (Eh, she’s so humble. I like her)

“Ahh\~This roasted duck is something to die for! The meat is so tender and juicy!” “This beef stew and all these side dishes are delicious too!” (Gulp..gulp..gulp) “Ah\~I’ve never had such delicious seafood soup before! So delicious!!” “Come, Xiao Du! This is an order. Eat with me!” Upon my insistence, Xiao Du sits down with me to eat. ( She’s so obedient too!)

“Umm!!! Yummy!” She shouts with joy. We both enjoy the meal together. “Miss, leave some room for desserts too, I told the chef to make your favorite ones!” Xiao Du tells me wiping her mouth. [clack] the door opens and two maids come in carrying two trays loaded with beautiful Chinese pastries. (Eh,I’m almost full.The snacks don’t look light but I can’t stop myself from wanting to try them\~hehe) The two maids almost drop their jaws when they see a pile of empty bowls and plates. “What happened to you Miss! Are you okay? Were you possessed by a ghost*?” They ask me worriedly. “Miss is okay, she’s been in a coma for three days.She only had a few drinks as food through the medicine pipe. That’s why she’s so hungry.” Xiao Du explains them.

“Yes, she’s right! I’m okay!” I tell them with a burf. They bow towards me and leave the room with piles of plate. Xiao Du tries to help them by picking up plates.The moment she’s about to leave,I stuff a pastry into her mouth with a big smile. “Mm..mm” she says,trying not to drop it as she leaves the room. “Mmm...these are indeed a lifetime experience!” “I’ve never had these types of pastries before! There are only moon cakes and mocchi in modern day Britain! These aren’t easy to get unless you have a Chinese friend or something!” “I’m so gonna have my chef learn how to make these if I can ever go back to modern day!”

“Yumm...the red bean paste is so sweet and melting in my mouth!” “Dear mom and dad, I’m in heaven! Away from all my liabilities! No school! No company business!!” “THIS IS TURELY HEAVEN!!”
