The Tears Of A Goddess
Hello, I'm Charlotte Cornell, I'm 15 years old. I live alone with my dad in Clivesdale. My mom died when I was young. My father works hard to take care of me and the village.
I try to take away work for my father, but he is stubborn.
The educational system in our country is not fair, the rich get better education than the poor, leading to the rich getting better jobs and the poor staying poor. There used to be no way to climb the social ladder, but this year they are doing an experiment for reintegration. Every village sends a boy and a girl, aged 15, to go to Goldfield, the school for the rich and royals.
Our village is mostly old people, meaning I will probably get send with Mattheus, my best friend, as we are the only qualifying children in our village.
My father has been training me since I was 6, which is why I can defend myself pretty well, put lightly.
My father used to be a prince, but he had to give up his royalty when he met my mother, because they got me.
He was banished from his kingdom, and we moved to Clivesdale, the village I live in right now.
He is very well-educated, leading to me and the children in our village being well-educated due to him teaching us.
I don't want to go to the school for the rich, but my father wants me to get a degree, find a husband and live my life to the fullest, but he doesn't understand that I like girls. I always have liked girls, when I saw the princes for the first time during a yearly check on which she joined her father. When I saw her, I was starstruck, it felt like being hit by lightning. That evening I was talking to Mattheus, I told him about the experience, he told me it was admiration, but I knew it was more. I had felt admiration before, this was different.
Despite me being a peasant, she suddenly came to me and said hi, I was shocked. I can still remember the day she spoke with me.
It was a warm summer day, I was 11 and just had a fight with Mattheus. He wanted to play with me, but I said no because I wanted to see the princes.
He got angry and went home, a few moments later I went and sat on the grass.
I heard footsteps and thought he had come back to apologize. I turned my head and didn't see an apologetic Mattheus, but the most beautiful person I had ever seen. Not only that, but I probably looked like a fool to her, in shock I stood up and made a bow.
Then it happened, the goddess giggled. She said I didn't have to be so formal, we were both children, she said: "You don't have to bow for me, right now I am not the princes, I am a girl who wants to hang out with you."
I just stood there in disbelief, enchanted by her beauty.
