Chapter 1

Disclamer: contents of this chapter is all from my research,

like google and books. I personally typed them, for everyone to know, hope this

ABACUS – an Abacus is a very simple calculator. A person can

add, subtract, multiply and divide on a abacus just by moving beads.

                History

Abacus was developed thousands of years ago. The earliest

abacus was a board covered with sand or dust. Marks made in the sand or dust

were used in place of numbers. In fact the word abacus came from the word dust.

                Design

Modern abacus has rows of rods or wires inside a frame.

Beads that can be moved upside down are strung on the rods. Each rod has a

place value. The beads represented numbers.

ABRAHAM- Abraham is the father of the Jewish and muslim

people. His story is told in the Book of the Genesis, the first book of the

bible.

God came to Abraham and told him to take his family to a

strange country, called Canaan. Abraham had never been there, but God promised

to show Abraham where to build a house. God also promised to take care of

Abraham and his family.

ACUPUNCTURE- Acupuncture is a treatment to help reduce pain.

It has been used in china for more than 2,000 years to treat pain from

arthritis, headaches and many more illness.

Chinese surgeons often use acupunsture during operations

instead of giving patients an anestetic drugs. Today, some doctors of the

United States use acupunctures, too.

Acupuncture use very thin needles about a thickness of a

hair. They stick them a short way into a patient’s skin and twist them quickly.

Patients say this feels like getting stung by an insect.

ADOPTION- if a child is born to a family who cannot take

care of the child, new family may ask to adopt the child. The new parents agree

to take care of there adopted child as if the child was there own flesh and

blood.

Once the child have been adopted, the natural parents, give

up all the rights they have for him or her, as well as all the

responsibilities.

ADVERTISING- advertising is a way of sending a message toi a

large group of people. An Advertisement also called an ad, usually tells people

about a product they might want to buy, such as a kind of car, soap or a candy.

We see and hear lots of ads, in newspapers, radio and mostly

in television, banners and signs. We may see 300-500 ads everyday!

AFRICA- Africa is the second largest continent in the world.

Only Asia is larger. Africa has huge desserts, wild jungles, and vast

grasslands.

Africa cover one-fifth of the earth’s land surface. It is

more that three times the size of the United States. Africa lies south of

Europe and the middle east. Over 500 million people live in Africa.

AIRCRAFT- Aircraft are machines that can fly\, people have

always wanted to fly. In ancient times, people built wings from wax and

feathers and tried to fly like birds, they did not succeed.

ALGAE – Algae re the simpliest kind of plants. An Alga is a

plant or kind of Algae. Some Algae are large, and others are too small to be

seen without a microscope.

All Algae live in water or damp places.

ALGEBRA- algebra is apart of mathematics that deals with

umknownn nukmbers. It uses special ways to find unknown numbers.

Algebra uses letters or pictures called symbols.

ALLERGY- when some people breathe in ragweed pollen\,their eyes

begin to itch, their noses run and they begun to sneeze.these people have an

allergy to ragweed pollen.

An allergy is an abnormal reaction to some particular

substance. The substance that causes the reaction is called allergen.

ALMANAC- an almanac is a book filled with information on all

kinsa of subjects, from movies to postage to weather.most almanacs are

published once a year, with new information added.

You can use an alamnac to find out which teams won in the

world series, the population of the state or country, the birthdays of famous

people and many other things.

 AMPHIBIAN- frogs,

toads, and salamanders belong to a group of animals called amphibians. This

names means “double life” . most amphibians spend the first part of their lives

in water. They spend some or all of the adult part of their lives on land.

They are vertebrates. This means they have backbones, as do

fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Sometimes people confuse amphibians and

reptiles.

An amphibian has soft, moist skin; a reptile has dry, scaly

skin. Amphibians are cold-blooded.

ANIMA**L**- animals come in many sizes\, shapes\, and colors.fleas

and Fozes are animals. So are cows and clams, butterflies and barnacles, worms

and whales, penguins and people…. Wait! What? People? Yes people! All together,

there are more than 1 million kinsa of livinjg things.

Hey guys, this is where chapter 1 ends for the story

encyclopedia, actually this is not just a whole story of encyclopedia.

But I will also share my life here, everytime, at the end of

a chapter.
