Chapter 5: Midnight Shock

After showering, You Xi luxuriated during afternoon tea time.

There were bulk packaged melon seeds today, which were You Xi’s favorite. The sumptuous afternoon tea made You Xi feel somewhat full. Looking at the snacks that hadn’t been finished, You Xi took his spirit of diligence and frugality to the max, stuffing all of the remaining snacks into his space pocket.

The space seemed a bit inadequate.

You Xi planned to expand his stores another day.

While thinking about that, Jiang Jiang and Gu Mian returned, but this time they had nothing.

“There’s a locked room on the third floor of the villa.” Gu Mian said, “When we check each room one by one, we found that it was locked. At the time, we were afraid of touching something bad, so we didn’t dare act without thinking. But after we finished inspecting the third floor–“

“The locked door opened ominously by itself.”

Gu Mian’s face was extremely ugly. “I gathered my courage and quickly glanced inside the room. It was empty, with only a desk. There was no paper or notebook on the desk, just a single pen.”

Very strange.

Even with You Xi’s IQ, something was obviously wrong.

“We can assume that someone opened the door before you.” You Xi said. “Don’t be surprised. It’s just that you missed a notebook that may explain the background of this instance. It’s no big deal.”

Actually, You Xi’s heart was bleeding.

This group of people were following his footsteps on the surface, but in reality they had their own little abacus in their hearts. [1] At critical moments, who wouldn’t keep life-saving information to themselves?

That night, when the wind was howling, You Xi woke up dazedly from his sleep once again. The wind was so strong, so noisy.

You Xi’s heart suddenly thumped.

It can’t be. He had obviously shut the windows before going to bed!

You Xi looked down at the shadows cast by the moonlight, and saw two thin arms slowly stretch toward him with extremely twisted posture. You Xi immediately used his invisibility seal. The headless ghost who was trying to strangle You Xi’s neck suddenly lost his target and froze.

But then she noticed the bulging outline under the blanket, and the mouth that grew out of one of the ghost’s hands chuckled. “Haha, bitch. So you’re also scared? Don’t hide under the blanket. When you lied to me that night and said something that caused my death, weren’t you so proud? Now it’s your turn, so be obedient and die for me–“

At the end of her speech, the female ghost’s voice became higher and higher. She rushed toward the bed, but was caught off guard when the blanket was thrown into the air.

“Naive. Do you think you can escape just by doing that?” The female ghost thought as she effortlessly tore the blanket to pieces. But when she looked at where You Xi was sleeping on the bed, it was obviously Dr. Liu who she had killed yesterday!

The headless ghost’s mouth and eyes started to twitch and twist violently. “Damn it. How did you!?”

But this time, her voice changed. It was no longer a woman’s voice, but rather a sharp tone mixed with the gloomy tone of a man.

Dr. Liu’s body moved. His mouth and eyes were gone, but the mouth on the female ghost’s hand spoke with Dr. Liu’s voice. “This bitch again… Why are you hurting me? I can’t forgive this, I can’t forgive this!!!”

Dr. Liu and the female ghost fought, and their movements were too loud, waking up Jiang Jiang who was asleep next door. Jiang Jiang trembled in his bed. Isn’t that Dr. Liu? Why did Dr. Liu come back again? Where’s the boss, where did the boss go?

Jiang Jiang looked around for You Xi, and he was anxious for along time but didn’t find him. When he was getting desperate, he finally found the boss standing in the empty area by the beds, leisurely sucking on melon seeds.

No. The boss was obviously not there just now.

It didn’t matter. Jiang Jiang was afraid that he would choke the boss, so he slept in shoes last night, making it easier for him to move around now. He jumped out of the bed, eager to live, and grabbed You Xi’s sleeves. You Xi paused eating his melon seeds.

…What the hell? The invisibility time ended?

You Xi thought that he had the invisibility seal for protection, so he released Dr. Liu to fight against the headless ghost so he could sit back and relax. But why did the crappy invisibility seal fail in just 2 minutes. He barely finished eating one of his melon seeds.

Can this cheap ghost game even give a shorter invisibility seal?!

You Xi was sulking and didn’t want to eat melon seeds anymore, so he stuffed a handful into Jiang Jiang’s hands.

He said concisely, “Eat.”

Jiang Jiang’s dangling heart fell into his stomach.

He calmly sucked the melon seeds as You Xi’s expression became more and more solemn. Dr. Liu wasn’t the headless ghost’s opponent at all, ah.

Although Dr. Liu was a tall man, the headless ghost had enhanced her strength through murder after all. If the situation continued and Dr. Liu loses, he and Jiang Jiang wouldn’t be lucky.

“Don’t eat.” You Xi glanced at Jiang Jiang who was spitting melon seeds onto the floor. He took out a kitchen knife from his pocked and handed it solemnly to Jiang Jiang. “Go help Dr. Liu.”

“Ara?” Jiang Jiang was stunned. “Me?”

You Xi spoke politely. “Yes. The weak must learn and grow on their own. I can protect you for a short time, but I can’t protect you for the rest of your life. Go and chop up the headless ghost. Be bold. With me by your side, you won’t die.”

As You Xi spoke, he couldn’t help but spit on himself. A dog! I’m really a dog!

Jiang Jiang was in danger, tremblingly approaching the headless ghost. When the headless ghost held up Dr. Liu and was about to gouge out his heart, he swiped his kitchen knife and posed as if he was shattering the earth.

With a muffled cry, the headless ghost slowly fell to the side.

You Xi looked at him, stunned.

Jiang Jiang, who had chopped the headless ghost, seemed to have changed. But when he focused intently, Jiang Jiang still looked like a foolish little follower, harmless to humans and animals.

But You Xi was already secretly wary. He didn’t have the brain power of the famous Detective Conan like other big bosses in escape games, but his antenna for detecting danger could go off at any time.

You Xi quickly recalled Jiang Jiang’s actions, and the more he thought about it, the more suspicious of him he became. He had many doubts about Jiang Jiang. The most notable one was — could a normal person’s feet smell like his?

Dr. Liu had touched and dissected no small number of corpses. He must know the smell of rotten flesh better than anyone else in the villa. When the smell appeared, he even thought of rotten flesh rather than the odor of stinky feet at first. Probably… Jiang Jiang possibly wasn’t a living person.

In the ink-splash dark night, Jiang Jiang’s pink hair seemed to darken, appearing as a strange bloody red.

You Xi calmed his mind and tried his best to hide the fear within his heart. He spoke naturally to Jiang Jiang. “You did a great job. Come back.”

On the other side of the room, after the headless ghost was injured severely, Dr. Liu took the opportunity to rush forward crazily and avenge himself. It seemed to frighten Jiang Jiang. Hearing You Xi’s call, he staggered over to him.

You Xi patted his head in comfort, then quietly took back the kitchen knife.

Jiang Jiang didn’t resist, but You Xi didn’t feel relieved because of this–

Jiang Jiang was definitely a boss. The hand that had touched Jiang Jiang’s hair just now smelled faintly of blood. The boss had turned out to be so obvious. Cited but not published, he must definitely be holding back a big move! [2]

Dr. Liu dug into the head of the headless ghost, cruelly squeezing it. He pressed down into the eyes and mouth on the headless ghost’s hand, mixed them into the pile of rotten meat, and then stuck it onto his face.

Such a terrifying and disgusting scene. It was inevitable that people would feel uncomfortable if they saw it. But the two people standing in the Wednesday room reacted oddly.

As usual, the corners of You Xi’s lips were slightly raised. Jiang Jiang, who stood behind You Xi, had eyes filled with bloodlust.

Dr. Liu felt that his pride as a ghost was being challenged.

Slowly scanning the crooked eyes on his face, Dr. Liu locked his gaze onto the unarmed Jiang Jiang. He opened his giant mouth and spoke sullenly at Jiang Jiang. “Why didn’t you… Why didn’t you save me yesterday? Why did you ignore me– I can’t forgive you!”

The live retelling of Mr. Dong Guo and the wolf! [3]

A shitty thought passed through You Xi’s mind. Jiang Jiang just saved Dr. Liu, why wouldn’t Dr. Liu say that? Did everyone start using gangster logic after becoming ghosts?

The headless ghost attributed her death to You Xi’s deception, and now Dr. Liu felt that his death was caused by Jiang Jiang not saving him. You Xi didn’t know whether it was just the exaggeration of the evils of human nature after death, or if it was a deliberate game setting.

If it’s the latter, then it was worth pondering over. Why would they force a dog to bite the other dogs? Having players kill each other, who would have a vested interest in the situation? Who would be happy to see that?

The answer was apparent–

It must be the boss, Jiang Jiang, who was hostile to the palyers and naturally stood opposite them!

You Xi immediately understood that because of the rules of the game, the boss Jiang Jiang hadn’t yet gotten off his horse. [4] As a ghost, Dr. Liu still regarded him as an ordinary player who he could kill.

Jiang Jiang was pretending to be a pig to eat a tiger. Hiding behind You Xi, he either wanted You Xi to strike for him, or wanted to see if You Xi would sacrifice him at a critical moment. Maybe both.

You Xi now had a wolf ahead of him and a tiger behind. Tigers were scarier than wolves, so–

You Xi stepped forward awe-inspiringly. But it was impossible for him to fight. The scene of him being beaten into a pig’s head by the evil ghost was so beautiful that he didn’t dare to imagine it.

“You can’t forgive?” You Xi smiled in contempt. “Who do you think you can win against? Are you here to take revenge, or to court death?”

After being ridiculed by You Xi, Dr. Liu was furious. But he remembered that Jiang Jiang had just reversed the situation with a single blow. He didn’t look like a soft persimmon. Now the situation was 2 versus 1, which wasn’t good odds for him…

“I’m giving you 3 seconds. Get out.” You Xi was outwardly serene, but internally, he was out of stamina. He was about to count down from three two one, but then he saw Dr. Liu turn his head and run away. He jumped out the window courageously and fled, and decisively didn’t release even one cruel word.

You Xi: “……”

Ah. Joy came upon him so suddenly. He was so touched that his eyes filled with tears.
