THE RANCOUR
The thundering night, Which had got everyone's fingers crossed for life, probably a storm, but the people inside the cell could only touch the droplets, coming from the windows, which are probably smaller than a pizza box. The thick stone wall's made them feel completely disconnected from the outside world. The night was darker than ever. No electricity made the situation worse.
I and my cell partner John felt the blindness. "What a storm, ain't it John?" I started. A flash of lightning struck and I could see John trembling in a corner far away from me. he has always been like that, fearing everything. It's been almost 4 months since we met. The first time I saw him, he was a nervous wreck. I was quite surprised to see this kind of guy in prison. So I asked him and he said, of course trembling, "I burnt a factory down" and I could easily say that should have been an accident. He said that the factory owners got so mad that they forged a complaint against him for intentionally burning it down and made him come here. But, he is a good person he has been quite free with me recently. I think I won his trust and believe it, I'm good at gaining trust.
"Why it is, it is.....ittt is getting creepy!" he shuddered. "Jeff, could you please pass the blanket, I'm feeling the chill running down my spine".
"Nah! I want you to be strong when you get out of here. I want to create a gang, a killer gang for our town and I want you to be a member of it," I said.
"But why would you need me. You always say I'm a scaredy-cat!" John asked.
"Well, I found out that you are a very capable person. You just need some training and blending and that's it" I replied in a bossy manner.
"But you are a rank holder in studies. You even topped in exams. Why would you need these gangs and wars?" John blabbered.
"My reputation is however gone. They have tricked me into committing crimes" I lowered my head.
"But you still have a big life ahead. You can study and settle somewhere else also" John spoke.
"It's not about my name being spoiled. It's the RANCOUR I seek. Revenge, vengeance, and the grudge flowing in my veins," I said closing my palms to a fist.
"Rancour!!....for whom?" John shuddered. "FOR TOM!" I said in a low voice.
"But Tom was the one who saved your life..." John started but I cut him off.
"He is the only reason why I'm here, in this stinky cell. I will tare him apart once I get out of here" I shouted, and a heavy thunder struck making a loud noise.
"It's only a short circuit, calm down folks!" the guard shouted running towards the circuit room.
"Jeff please give me the blanket. I feel terrible, please" John cried. Tears rolled down his eyes and I could see him, curled up, through the lightning flashes.
"Ok, wait a sec" I grabbed the blanket and made my way to him.
John waited but no one came.
"Jeff, where are you. Jeff, please don't play tricks on me. Please pass me the blanket" John cried. No response came. "Jeff, your freaking me out" Suddenly lightning struck, and in a corner stood Jeff with the blanket over his body tainted with blood.
"Jeff!! what the hell brother?" John shouted. The lights went off and John started to hear crepitus noises. Like a bone cracking or maybe a body twisting.
"Wh....Where are you, Jeff. Please it's getting creepy, stop this" The thunderstroke came again and washed the whole cell with light. But this time Jeff was not in the place where John saw him at first, HE WAS WALKING ON THE CEILING, singing rhymes.
JOHN GASPED.
"TWINKLE, TWINKLE, LITTLE STAR" "CRIMINAL MINDED BRAT YOU ARE" he started laughing, and the thunders started intensifying all at once. "Je...jeff no no please stop!" John shouted.
"RANCOUR" Jeff shouted this time in a demonic voice.
