Chapter 4 Awakening

Lucie was in the same woods again, this time the wolf was already looking at her.

Lucie said "Umm..Hi"

The wolf looked at her and just stared making Lucie feel embarrassed. Of course how can an animal talk.

The wolf said after a while "I can talk."

Lucie flinched shocked. What? The wolf talks!

The wolf said "Yes. You can hear and understand me."

Lucie asked confused "Huh? What do you mean?"

The wolf replied "Right. I forgot you know nothing. But before that. I have a question."

Lucie felt confused but answered "Sure. Ask anything."

The wolf said " Why are you like how you are?"

Lucie said "Huh?"

The wolf said "You have always been like this. Always scared of everything. Not doing what actually you want. No willing to change at all. Why?"

Lucie did not have an answer, she just looked at those hazel eyes.

The wolf continued "Will you be like this forever? Will you keep being too conscious of what others feel about you? Deep down you wanted to be a warrior right? Then are these the qualities of a warrior, Miss stupid?"

Lucie was stunned. She stuttered "How..d-did you know that? And who is miss stupid?"

The wolf rolled it's eyes. Lucie screamed in her head 'Did the wolf just roll it's eyes at me? The heck? It can roll it's eyes?'

The wolf rolled her eyes again and said " You are the stupid one. And I am a female if you didn't realize it. So address me as she not it. You are addressing yourself as 'it'. "

Lucie said "I am not stupid! And how is that addressing myself as it?"

The wolf said "Because you are me and I am you. We are one."

Lucie just stared. She thought 'What nonsense is this wolf saying. But this fur ball looks so cute when she is talking so seriously."

The wolf said " I am not a fur ball! Bad this isn't nonsense. You just don't know anything. Talking with you is making me stupid too. Damn it."

Lucie said "Weirdo"

The wolf said " Anyways, I want you to change. You can't remain like this forever. Train, show your real self. Don't hide it. It doesn't matter what people will think of you. What matters is you not their opinions. Know this.

And didn't you feel your senses sharpen? It's because of me. You better improve and accept me quickly or else I will become your nightmare!"

Lucie flinched. This one sure is arrogant, she thought.

But she nodded.

The wolf said "Remember I always here with you. You just have to call out to me and I will be there."

Lucie woke up. Her dad was sitting beside her bed holding her hand.

Seeing her awake, he asked "How do you feel now?"

Lucie said "I am fine, just a little drowsy"

He nodded and kept asking her questions.

Lucie replied to all of them and asked "Dad, what am I?"

Nathan looked surprised and tensed before he smiled and replied "You are my daughter Lucie. You are the world for me and your mom. You are and will always our most loved daughter and our whole world."

Lucie smiled at him. Though she knew he was hiding something. She was happy by what her dad said. She felt grateful and lucky for having such parents.

She was still at Sophie's aunt's house. Everyone came in after they got to know that she was awake. She smiled at them awkwardly and apologised for worrying them.

Millie said "Why are you apologising Lucie? This is your home too. Of course we will be worried you are one of us. Now take rest and recover. School is over for today, Sophie applied for you leave for tomorrow. Now take rest."

Lucie was shocked that she was unconscious for two days.

Catherine came and helped her up. She gave her food to eat. Lucie stared at her mom. Catherine asked "What happened?"

Lucie said "I slept for two days, I need to brush and bath mom."

Catherine looked surprised and said "Yeah. Right. Sorry I forgot. Come on get up and wash yourself."

Lucie went to wash herself. She ate the food.

Her dad came in said if she is fine with going home. Lucie smiled and nodded.

She packed all the things she got here and went down to the living room.

Everyone was sitting there. Sophie came to her and stood with her.

Lucie bid them goodbye and went with her parents along with Sophie home. They dropped Sophie on the way and went home.

Next day morning, Lucie woke up early. She saw her dad working out. So, she went to him. Nathan smiled when she came. He said "Good morning sweetheart"

Lucie smiled sweetly and said "Good morning my super handsome dad."

Nathan laughed at her words. Lucie asked "Dad, can you teach me how to fight?"

Nathan looked surprised. Lucie said "I know you know how to fight, I have seen you in action. Teach me too. I want to be able to fight if something were to happen."

Nathan looked as if he wanted to protest but Lucie convinced him by saying " I don't want the same thing to happen to me like last time dad. You came in time and saved me but it can't happen every time. So please teach me."

Nathan could not protest to that. He knew what she said was true. That time, if he didn't reach on time, he doesn't know if he would have been able to see his daughter again.

He nodded and agreed to teach her. He first made her work out for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening.

Lucie woke up early everyday to do her workouts and become fit to start with real fighting.

Her classes went on normal. But there were changes in Lucie. She became more open about her opinions and at teh same she also became more reserved.

Lucie never left an opportunity to learn. She actually studied hard. She didn't want to be distracted. She remembered what the fur ball told her. She should be able to answer her next time. That's what she thought.

Lucie learned to fight, her senses were actually sharper and were helping her out almost every time. She could sense danger easily, making her be on guard always.

Nathan was surprised at her progress, but he only taught her more and helped her become strong. He didn't want his little girl to ever face that again.

It's been a month since Lucie last saw her fur ball in her dreams. She did not talk to her again. Lucie missed her, a lot. She wanted tell her a lot of things but she didn't know when will she dream of her again.

In this month, Lucie became much better, stronger. At the same time, the murders by the unknown creature increased. Five people are dead in this month. Everyone's fear and curiosity increased. But nobody knows the culprit.

There were no clues whatsoever at all.

Lucie's school planned a trip over the weekend for final year students. It was to a famous resort in the forest.

It was known for its amazing architecture and events they have.

Sophie and Lucie packed everything for their trip. Nathan was reluctant to send her, but Catherine convinced him that she is graduating. She needs to have some fun too. She needs to release her stress for her finals. Nathan agreed.

Lucie thought 'The resort lives up to its name. No wonder it's so famous. It's a total different world.'

The class had a barbecue party, with their teachers cooking some students helping out, and some DJ-ing.

Lucie and Sophie helped the teachers and gave food for the other students.

Abriel was having fun with his girlfriend and Asher was flirting like always.

They slept through the Friday night.

Saturday came, they all set out for trekking and staying out in the woods. Of course in the protected area because of the recent murders.

They made tents, Sophie and Lucie shared one as usual.

Sophie said laying down "Want to do some mischief?"

Lucie immediately tensed but then broke into a smile and said "I am up for it. What's the plan?"

Sophie looked surprised. Lucie never did mischief. She was always the careful one.

Sophie recovered and said "No actual plans. Let's sneak out. I heard there is a lake here. Let's go check it out."

Lucie nodded. They both quietly sneaked out. They went exploring the forest. Almost thirty minutes later they saw the lake.

Lucie had never seen such a scene before. The water so clear and dark due to night and moon reflecting on it. It was full moon today. It looked especially beautiful, it felt like it was radiating some essence. Elegance that is.

Lucie and Sophie stared for a long time without speaking.

Lucie then heard a movement. She was immediately alarmed and was on guard.

Lucie said "Sophie, let's go. It's not safe to stay out long."

Sophie understood something was wrong and immediately followed Lucie.

But they were blocked. By a creature.
