The forest was alive in the worst way possible. The air was thick, unmoving, as if it held its breath along with her. Every step felt heavier, swallowed by the damp earth beneath her feet.
Then came the sound—a shriek so unnatural it curdled the air.
She ran.
Branches clawed at her skin, the ground betraying her at every turn. But the thing in the shadows was faster. Closer.
Then—darkness. Fangs. Claws. A growl that vibrated through her bones.
She fought. She failed. And just as the world began slipping away, something else moved. A black figure, faster than a blink.
And then… nothing.
She woke up in unfamiliar arms, voices whispering around her. She was saved.
Or maybe, she wasn’t.
