Chapter 10
Yesterday?
No one said anything. I came back to school all quiet, dreamy, still floating from that soft little date with Leo. I was so drowsy from cleaning up my post-date room-disaster that I must’ve looked like a walking zombie in class.
No teasing.
No smirking.
Not even Shine cracked a joke.
Peace.
Bliss.
I should’ve known it was the calm before the storm.
Because today?
I walked in like a normal person — hair decent, smile mild — and Shine turned to me like she’d just spotted a celebrity.
> “Well, well, well. Look who’s awake and ready for part two of her rom-com.”
I froze.
Here we go.
She stood up, cleared her throat like she was about to give a TED Talk.
> “Class, kindly give a round of applause for our very own mysterious almost-girlfriend, Miss Strawberry Picnic Queen!”
I wanted to melt into the floor.
I turned so red, I could’ve been a tomato in love.
> “You had us fooled yesterday,” she whispered, dropping into the seat beside me like a CIA agent. “All sleepy and harmless. But you— you had a whole date out here like a movie heroine!”
I hissed, “Can you keep it down? It wasn’t even a date-date!”
> “Oh please,” she grinned. “You think I didn’t catch the matching keychain? What are you two, a couple of romantic Pokémon trainers?”
> “We didn’t even talk in class yesterday!” I whispered back.
> “Yeah, and that’s what makes it even suspicious-er. Silent lovers? Iconic.”
I buried my face in my book, and she leaned over and booped my forehead.
> “You’re glowing, bestie. Either that’s good moisturizer or you’ve caught feelings.”
I nearly shoved her off the bench.
> “Can I live?!”
The rest of the day?
She made kissy faces every time Leo passed by. I pretended not to know her. But when class ended and I waved shyly at Leo and he nodded with that cute little shy smile…
Yeah.
She screamed silently behind me like a supportive yet chaotic best friend.
And I wouldn’t trade her for anything
Leo’s POV: The Day She Glowed
I walked into class, still half-asleep, hoping for a quiet day.
Then I heard Shine’s voice echo like she had a mic.
> “Miss Strawberry Picnic Queen!”
Oh no.
I didn’t even look up right away. I knew it was about her.
She looked flustered — red-faced, hiding behind her book, as Shine whispered like a gossip gremlin beside her. Cute.
I kept my head down, tried to focus, but my ears were working overtime.
I caught words like “keychain,” “rom-com,” “date-date,” and something about “Pokémon trainers?”
Okay.
I almost choked on my water.
Later, I passed her seat and Shine made kissy faces at me. I blinked. Twice.
They were both acting like undercover spies and I was just… confused. And also kind of enjoying it?
At the end of class, when she waved shyly at me from the door —
I nodded back.
Shy. Small. But real.
She had no idea I’d been smiling like an idiot the whole time.
