"No, I don't!" She said with affirmation, Mrs Betty was about to say something but she cut her off "Even if I happen to have feelings for him. It will be totally useless, he is engaged and will be getting married in a few months!" There was a pang of hurt in her eyes which Mrs Betty noticed but quickly she covered it up with a faint smile.
"Have you ever wondered if he has feelings for you?" She asked, her voice was gentle.
Carol let out a sad, impassive laugh "That is highly impossible! Adrian only thinks of me as a friend".
Mrs Betty rolled her eyes, her arms folded. She gave Carol a knowing look.
"What?"
"If he only thought of you as a friend then how come he almost kissed you after your dance?" Saying that she turned to attend to her first customer of the evening. Carol stood there unable to speak.
After she bidded her goodnight, she slowly walked back to the two men.Her mind was preoccupied with a lot of thoughts,the question Mrs Betty asked replayed over and over again.The question she had no answer to.
'Does he have feelings for me?' she thought.Realizing that she was drawing nearer to them,she pushed those thoughts aside.
"Carol, he is engaged. End of story!" She scolded herself.
She noticed that the two men seemed to be in a heated conversation, she quickly hastened her steps. A bit curious of what they were talking about, she slowly approached them not wanting to disrupt the conversation and listened in on the conversation.
"Carol and I are friends and that is what we are and will ever be!" She heard Adrian say.
Carol felt her heart get crushed over and over again by his words though they were true but they hurt like hell. She felt like breaking down but knowing that it was a bad idea she didn't. Hiding the hurt she felt, she quickly put on a smile and called out to them.
"William! Adrian! Let's go!".
