The Baby Was Yours (1)

I spent the whole day in a trance and didn't realize it was time to get off work until the evening sun lazily shone on the transparent glass.

Next to me, Jason was still busy. I went to the bathroom to smoke and waited to get off work.

When I came back, Isabel was sitting in my office chair. It seemed she was waiting for Jason to get off work.

I teased Isabel, "Isabel, your butt gets bigger again. My chair is almost full!"

"Damn it, indecent scum!" Isabel rolled her eyes at me.

I raised my eyebrows and smiled at Isabel. In fact, she was a beautiful and sexy woman. She was tall and had perfect curves. Everyone would be attracted to her when she walked on the street.

I came to Jason, patted him on the shoulder, and asked, "Have you finished the blueprint of the project plan?"

"The general idea and framework have been completed. I just need to add some notes," Jason replied.

"I'll do the rest. You can leave. Don't keep Isabel waiting."

Isabel pressed her hands on my face and said happily, "Howard, you're so sweet. You don't know how much we have to do later!"

"There will definitely be a lot of things to prepare for your wedding," I said as I removed Isabel's hands from my face.

Jason finally stretched his body, got up, and said to me, "Okay, I have to go to the wedding company and the wedding dress store with Isabel. If you have any questions, just call me."

"Don't worry, go do your things," I said and sat down on Jason's office chair.

Jason quickly packed up his things. Isabel held his arm and said to me as if she remembered something before she left, "Howard, our company's building is about to be open for sale. If you want to buy an apartment, I can help you get a discount. It would cost you 20 dollars less every square foot!"

Isabel is the director of the Sales Department in a real estate company in the city. The internal price she could get was absolutely attractive. I could save at least 20,000 dollars if I bought one place with her help, but I didn't have the money.

"I'll let you know," I replied.

Jason asked Isabel, "Which building this time?"

"The Eco Town, 2nd Stage," Isabel replied.

Jason put down the briefcase and said to me seriously, "Howard, buy one. This building is really good. If you miss this opportunity, you will have to wait for a long time. Moreover, the housing price will definitely rise crazily in the future!"

"Buy one? You know how much money I have."

"Isabel and I still have some savings. I'll lend some money to you. You can talk about this with D-George. There should be no problem getting the down payment, right?"

"The two of you still have a mortgage to pay for. You're going to get married soon and will spend a lot of money. You really don't have to worry about me."

Isabel said, "It's easy for the two of us to pay our mortgage. Howard, buy a place. It will be an advantage for you to find a girlfriend. We really don't want to see you muddling along like this. We're worried about you!"

"It's easy for two people to pay the mortgage together! But have you ever thought about how I can pay my mortgage after I buy a place? I can't even pay my bills! How can I afford those monthly installments... Alright, stop standing here. It's going to be dark soon," I urged Jason and Isabel to leave.

Isabel and Jason looked at each other and sighed. They glanced at me again before leaving.

...

Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, I saw that downstairs of the company, Isabel was holding Jason's arm as they walked towards the white car that they had just bought.

They already had their own house and car in this city and would soon get married. I didn't understand what made us so different. Was this a joke from heaven or did I ruin myself?

In my lonely gaze, I couldn't help but think, "If I hadn't broken up with Jane, shouldn't I get married too?"

...

At 9 o'clock in the evening, I finally finished the project plan left by Jason, stretched my body, took the cup, and walked to the staff breakroom. I was ready to get the last cup of coffee before I left.

I was absent-minded as I listened to the sound of coffee falling into the cup from the coffee machine. It was like a gentle call, so I didn't even have a place to hide my feelings.

I gulped down a mouthful of coffee and looked at the night sky and the neon lights outside the window. I really wanted to get rid of this tired body!

...

My phone rang. I took it out and saw it was from Penny again.

After I picked up the phone, Penny said to me in a weak voice, "Howard, where are you?"

"I'm working overtime," I responded with an unknown emotion.

"Can you help me wash my laundry? I can't touch cold water."

"**** you, don't you have a washing machine?" I asked angrily in frustration.

Penny said in a tired voice, "OK, come and **** me."
